There are three major passages of scripture that deal with Babylon in the endtimes. Jeremiah 50 & 51 are chapters devoted to the destruction of Babylon, and they match Isaiah 47 and Rev. 17 & 18. Jer. 51:2 says "Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces."

Five times in that one verse God says to publicly declare the coming judgment of Babylon: I think he means it!!

Babylon is first mentioned in Gen. 10:10, and the activities of the people are developed in Gen. 11:1-9. They journeyed from the east; their pride was manifested in their attempt to build a tower whose top would reach unto heaven; they wanted to make a name for themselves lest they be spread abroad. It is believed that the tower was to be used for astrology. In short, Babel was the first world-power or superpower and it was occultic in nature.

Babylon was the superpower (at that time) nation that took Israel captive in about 607 B.C. thus beginning the times of the Gentiles. It was the city in which Daniel lived and prophesied many of the events of the end times. The king, Nebuchadnezzar, also had a problem with pride. Dan. 4:30 "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?"

Ancient Babylon, located on the Euphrates River, is the land today known as Iraq. During his war with Iran (1980-88), Saddam Hussein spent millions of dollars rebuilding the ancient city of Babylon. This is one of the reasons he invaded Kuwait: he had overextended his resources by fighting a war and building a city at the same time. Hussein had erected statutes of himself across Iraq identifying himself as Nebuchadnezzar. He intended to revive ancient Babylon, and he personally intended to rule it.

But is Iraq the nation described in Jeremiah? I don’t think so, primarily because in God’s covenant with Abraham he gave Israel all the land from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates, which is in Iraq. Israel has not yet inhabited all this land, but will during the millennium. The Babylon destroyed in prophecy will become totally uninhabitable which completely rules out Iraq as being the land of the fulfillment of this prophecy.

There are superpowers in the world today. Russia has been identified prophetically as Gog, although this is being questioned today.  Whether or not Russia is Gog, that nation is actively aiding and abetting the Islamic countries and peoples that are trying to destroy Israel. China may be the nation referenced as the kings of the east in Rev. 9:13-19, and it is thought that it will largely makeup and lead an eastern invasion across the Euphrates (Rev. 9:13-19). The European Union is a revival of Rome not Babylon. The EU is not something new, but something very old, rising up again, and it is the same as Daniel’s fourth beast and the beast of Rev. 13:1-3.

So what about the USA?

The Babylon passages contain several identifiers, and Babylon must fit ALL of them. Jer. 50:12 says it has a mother, which means its people came from a specific place: England.

Jer. 50:12 says it is the hindermost of the nations, meaning that at the time of its destruction it is a young nation. The USA is two hundred thirty years old, which is young as nations in prophecy go. Jer. 50:23 says it is the hammer of the whole earth. Hammers build and hammers destroy, which is a picture of our foreign policy. Jer. 50:25 (+Isa. 47:12-14) tell us it is the land of the Chaldeans, which Biblically means astrologers, magicians, sorcerers, diviners and other occultists. This is the national religion of America today: it’s called the New Age Movement. But Babylon will also be a land that actual Chaldeans inhabit. The largest Chaldean community in the world outside the middle east is located in Dearborn, Michigan.

Jer. 50:31 says it is the most proud. America has much to be proud about: even in our decline America is still the best place in the world in which to live. But pride is negative in God’s economy. In Isa. 47:7 Babylon says, "I shall be a lady forever." The Statue of Liberty, the image of a goddess, stands in New York Harbor. In Isa. 47:8 she says, "I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children." She thinks she is impervious to attack.  The events of 9/11 indicated differently, but there are also questions regarding just exactly WHO was behind that attack.

Jer. 50:37 says she has a mingled people, she is a racial melting pot. Look around you. This is a reversal of the ‘scattering abroad’ of Gen. 11.

Jer. 50:38 tells us it is a land of graven images. I don’t know if it is still true, but at one time money was made from engraving plates. Bel, the god of Babylon, is the same as Baal, the sun god. Look at the back of the $1.00 bill. The Great Seal, designed by Franklin, Jefferson (both Masons) and John Adams, was adopted in 1789, and it is an occultic symbol. The pyramid, actually a triangle inside circle, is a powerful symbol used in witchcraft and Satanism. The Latin words annuit coeptis (announcing the conception) novus ordo seclorum (new secular order) are actually announcing the founding of the new world order. There are thirteen (we all know about that number) levels in the pyramid, which is not really a pyramid: it is actually a ziggurat with a flat platform at the top, which in ancient times was used for worship. The capstone contains the eye of Lucifer inside a sunburst, which is a representation of Baal. The Roman numerals are 1776, the year of the Declaration of Independence, but also the year the Illuminati began in Bavaria.

Isa. 47:9 speaks of the "multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments." Isa. 47:12 says it has labored in enchantments and sorceries from its youth. This is the Masonic/NWO connection. Jer. 51:13 says it dwells on many waters. Ancient Babylon was located on the Euphrates River, but the US sits between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, we have the Gulf of Mexico, the Great Lakes, Salt Lake, the Mississippi and many other great Rivers. Many waters.

Jer. 51:53 says it can mount up (Hebrew ascend) to heaven. This is a picture of our space program and satellite technology. Man has always wanted to ascend into heaven, the same as Lucifer, to dethrone God (Isa. 14:12-14).

We have far surpassed the builders of Babel. Rev. 18:7 tells us Babylon glorifies herself and lives deliciously. She lives in luxury. By standards in other parts of the world, even poor Americans have a very high standard of living. Isa. 47:8 says she is given to pleasures: a reference to America’s obsession with entertainment and sports, and dwells carelessly, or without care: she feels invincible. Rev. 18:11-13 indicates she is an importing rather than an exporting nation, and the passage contains a listing of commodities purchased by Babylon.

PREPARATION
Jer 51:2 tells us that fanners (Hebrew: zuwr - translated as ‘strangers’ seventy-six times, i.e. foreigners) will be sent into the land to fan (toss about, diffuse, winnow) and shall empty her land. As I write this (April 2006) the US is experiencing protests over illegal immigration. The borders are open, and it is believed that others besides Mexicans are entering through Mexico and Canada. Jer. 51:14 says, "Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillars; and they shall lift up a shout against thee."

According to Jer. 51:46 there will be advance warning of the attack two years in a row with violence in the land - could be civil war or civil uprising (riots).

Jer. 51:6 says "Flee out of the midst of Babylon and deliver every man his soul, be not cut off in her iniquity." Rev. 18:4 "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." Jer. 51:45 "My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the Lord." The context of these statements is the tribulation period, so this is probably addressed to American Jews: they don’t want to go home to Israel, and many of the Jews who emigrate from Russia have to be convinced to go to Israel, which is where God wants them - that is the land he gave them.

During this time known as the church age, we Christians can take Daniel and Jesus as our pattern. Both lived and ministered under pagan beast governments, but neither of them attempted to overthrow those governments nor did they attempt to move elsewhere. Very shortly God himself will remove the Christians from this country, but the warnings to flee are given to the people of God who live here during the tribulation. I believe that, following the rapture, they will have a few very short months to get out of Dodge. Currently there is a general unrest regarding our open borders, but I can’t help but wonder if those borders aren’t open for a purpose: to let the people of God OUT when the time comes.

WHY
The passages give us the reasons for the judgment. Jer. 50:11 "Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls." 50:17 "Last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his (Israel’s) bones." 50:24 "Because thou hast striven against the Lord." 50:28 "The vengeance of God for his temple." 50:29 "For she hath been proud against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel."

In years past we have witnessed Supreme Court decisions legalizing abortion and removing prayer and the Ten Commandments from schools, and today, being a Christian in the USA is just plain politically incorrect. While not so many years ago we were told to be "tolerant" of the homosexual lifestyle, today this abomination to God is being promoted as simply an alternative lifestyle and those who speak out against it are accused of hate crimes. Simply turning on the television and watching for thirty minutes or so will clearly reveal that this country has moved very far away from God.

Jer. 50:33-34 says "The children of Judah and Israel were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go. Their redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name: he shall thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon."

The USA is one of four partners of the "Quartet" (the others are the UN, the EU and Russia) which is pushing the "roadmap to peace" in the middle east. We also provide major economic funding to Israel. The receiver is obligated to do what the giver says, which is why so many believe the US was/is behind the ‘disengagement’ of the covenant lands of Israel. Jer. 51:5 says, "though they sinned, Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God."

Jer. 51:7 "Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad." What God intended to be a blessing to the earth was instead used to corrupt it. We have seen foreign aid sold on the black market: rulers with huge bank accounts living in luxury while their people starve. Depleted uranium left over from our munitions used in Afghanistan and Iraq is causing horrific birth defects and a multitude of cancer cases in those countries.

Jer. 51:9 "We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed." Why? Because the people that are called by God’s name did not repent (II Chron. 7:14). Jer 51:34-35 says "Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out. 35 The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say."

WHO
Jer. 50:9 tells us the attackers will be an assembly of great nations from the north. If directions are relative to Israel, Russia is due north. Jer. 51:27 names Ararat, Minni and Ashchenaz, i.e. Armenia: former Soviet republics. Jer. 50:42 tells us they shall hold the bow and the lance, they are cruel and will not show mercy, their voice shall roar like the sea and they shall ride upon horses (aircraft). Jer. 51:11 and 28 mentions the king of the Medes - the land known today as Iran, that same country that is bent on developing nuclear weapons with the intention of using them against Israel and the US. It appears that they will succeed as concerns the US. Jer. 51:25, 48, 53 indicate that it is God who will destroy Babylon.  This could be by using human or angelic means, or it could be a combination of both.

REACTION
Jer. 50:43 says when the king of Babylon hears the report his hands wax feeble and anguish takes hold of him like labor pains. Jer. 51:30-32 tells us the military will totally lose its will to fight, and in vs. 38-40 the people will roar as lions, yell as lions whelps, they will feast and get drunk and fall into a perpetual sleep, and they will be brought like lambs to the slaughter. In essence, they will have a party at which they will roar and rumble about what they are going to do, but instead they will feast and become drunk, at that time their destruction will come, and they will fall into a perpetual sleep (die) like lambs to the slaughter. In the original fulfillment, there was writing on the wall that night. In Jer. 51:57 God repeats that he will "make drunk" her princes, wise men, captains, rulers and mighty men. The ruling elite will be at a party that night.

SCOPE: NUCLEAR AND TOTAL
Jer. 50:9 says, "For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain." Jer. 51:56 tells us her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken. Bows are used to shoot missiles: think in terms of launch codes. Also consider that America is disarming while Russia is still building, deploying, and arming Islamic countries.

Jeremiah tells us (50:12) she shall be a wilderness, a dry land, a desert; (50:13) she shall not be inhabited but be wholly desolate, (50:26-27) "open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left. Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! For their day is come, the time of their visitation;" and (50:30) "her young men shall fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day."

Jer. 50:32 "I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him;" (Rev. 18:8) "she shall be utterly burned with fire;" (Rev. 18:9, 18) the kings and merchants will see the smoke of her burning; (Rev. 18:10, 15) states that they stand "afar off for the fear of her torment" - the destruction will be so swift that by the time the clouds of smoke are seen the bombs will have stopped falling. All of this, plus the fact that Babylon will never again be inhabited, makes me think this devastation is nuclear: the fear of radiation would cause people to stand away.

Jer. 50:35-37 states that a sword (military destruction) is upon the Chaldeans and the inhabitants of Babylon and upon her princes and upon her wise men (the occultists, the residents, the rulers and the academicians/philosophers); the liars who will dote (be slack, foolish); and upon the mighty men who will be dismayed (military); the horses and chariots (transportation systems); and the mingled people shall become as women (terrified and weak). There will be a drought upon the waters, which is extremely serious when the prophecy specifically mentions destruction by fire.

Jer. 51:1 says God will send a destroying wind. Nuclear detonation is followed by winds ranging from 300 - 600 MPH. Jer. 51:3 says "destroy ye utterly all her host". This is total destruction of the military. Jer. 51:8-9 says Babylon is SUDDENLY destroyed…her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies, and Rev. 18:19 says "for in one hour is she made desolate," Rev. 18:8 "therefore shall her plagues come in one day," and Rev. 18:13 says "for in one hour is thy judgment come." ICBMs can travel 11,000 feet per second, meaning they can travel from Russia to the USA in thirty minutes. This judgment that reaches to the skies may be mushroom clouds.

Jer. 51:37 says Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place for dragons (jackels or some other hideous animal) without inhabitant. Jer. 51:41 says "How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!" Notice that verse has three exclamation points. Even though there will be warning and rumor that this attack is to come, it is still an awesome surprise to both the Babylonians and other nations.

Jer. 51:43 says Babylon’s cities are desolation, dry land and wilderness, "a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby." This devastation is total (probably nuclear) and, according to Jer. 51:44, permanent: nations shall not flow together any more unto him - they won’t even visit. Jer. 51:58 "and the people shall labor in the vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary." The people will try to put out the fires, but they can’t.

It should be noted that Jeremiah and Revelation indicate two separate judgments of Babylon. The first is the fire and destruction that we have just reviewed, and it apparently occurs at the very beginning of the tribulation. The second is the sinking of Babylon beneath the water (Jer. 51:51 and Rev. 18:21), and it occurs at the second advent of Jesus.

For a new believer in the USA who might be reading this after the rapture, I strongly recommend that you get out of the US NOW.

THE RESULT
Jer. 50:39 tells us Babylon will be completely uninhabitable by man forever, and only wild beasts of the islands and desert shall dwell there, and owls shall dwell there. This seems to be a case of God using irony. It is fashionable in America to kill the babies and save the spotted owls. Here, God says, "okay!" Babylon will be overthrown as Sodom and Gomorrah. Jer. 50:46 tells us that at the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations. It will be very loud, and it will cause earthquakes.

WHY AMERICA?
What is it that America has done that has caused God to have this kind of wrath? We have learned in school that the original pilgrims came here for religious freedom: they wanted to serve and worship God without the state telling them how. The American revolution was fought in 1776, the same year as the founding of the Illuminati in Bavaria. While the US government appears to have had occult roots, the people themselves didn’t - this was a Christian nation.

But there have been moves throughout our history to lay the foundation for the New World Order. Things really started rolling in 1933 when we got the Federal Reserve, which is not part of the federal government, but is privately owned and operated in direct violation of the Constitution.

A lot of countries have risen and fallen since Babel, but a new significance came about with the establishment of Israel in 1948. This signaled the beginning of the end times. America has always been involved in missionary outreach to the rest of the world. It truly was a golden cup in the hand of the Lord. It was a wealthy nation that spent money to send the gospel to the world. But in 1963 Madelyn Murry O’Hair succeeded in having the Supreme Court throw God out of the public schools, and from that point Christianity has progressively been suppressed in all public arenas.

In 1967 the Jews recaptured Jerusalem, the final generation began, and things really began to speed up. In 1973 the Supreme Court legalized abortion on demand, and to date, thirty-three million babies have been murdered in America. I checked live birth figures at the library a few years ago, and forty percent of those who should be in this age group are simply missing. God will judge this.

America has become tolerant of homosexuality and pornography. We have a well entrenched feminist movement, Michael Schiavo was allowed to legally murder his wife, and Hillary wants us to believe that biblical discipline of children is child abuse. The schools are actively promoting death education and occultism and we have to station armed guards and metal detectors at the doors. Various law enforcement agencies, from federal to local level, are seizing private property for imagined violations of laws that are themselves unconstitutional.  Take a drive in your car and listen to the filth booming from other cars, that is, if you don't get run off the road due to someone's road rage.  Little children, and some not so little, cannot play in their yards because the neighborhood sex offender might just abduct, rape, torture and murder them, and as often as not, the legal system turns a blind eye.

America has rejected God and his moral restraints and we are reaping the result (Ps.2).

Beginning at least in 1988 the USA has been involved in the mid-east peace effort. Initially, we kept the Europeans and the Russians pretty much out of the loop, but that is not the case today with the peace process being brokered by the Quartet: the US, EU, UN and Russia. They intend to establish a contiguous country for the Palestinians from the West Bank to Gaza. If someone does not intervene, this peace process is going to result in the destruction of Israel because it will be indefensible.

The scripture prophesies that someone will intervene: antichrist. I think that it is the US who is setting the stage for this man. There could be no New World Order if the USA, the most powerful country in the world, were not totally, fully behind it. Our government is working FOR the New World Order. Our people have been dummed down, over-worked and entertained to the point where most simply do not see the danger all around. We are watching our nation deteriorate from within because it has turned its back on God.

And the churches have allowed this to happen while they were busy with purpose driven drivel, endtime revival that is not happening and is not prophesied to happen, political correctness and tolerance, and thinking that being a Republican and being a Christian are the same thing. Christians need to open their Bibles to see just how far we have fallen. It is an amazing thing that Christians in other countries can clearly identify Babylon, but the wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked Americans can’t. There remain a few who have not bowed the knee to Baal, but every one of us should take our spiritual temperature.

I do not hate the country that is my home, but long ago I recognized that my citizenship is in heaven, and I thank God for that.

I have long believed that the day would come when America would betray Israel, and when that happened, it would be the final straw. I believe that day came with the disengagement of Gaza, an event that is believed to have occurred under pressure from our president. I pray for him often.

This is a horrifying passage of scripture, but the time is at hand. If America is Babylon, people that we personally know and love will be caught in the attack. The Bible states that at the end of the millennium the current heavens and earth are going to be burned up - annihilated - but from this passage we learn that part of the earth is going to be destroyed much sooner. Looking at this should help us to get and keep our priorities in order. There is NOTHING more important than getting the gospel of Jesus Christ to as many people as possible NOW. Jobs, parties, cars, houses, none of these have any eternal significance unless we allow them to sidetrack us from fulfilling our commission. The time is very short. Jesus said this (John 9:4-5) "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." He also said this (Matt 5:14-16) "Ye are the light of the world." Like him, we must work the works of him who has sent us. We need to pray and witness like never before - NOW.

Note to those who are reading this after the rapture: If you are not a Christian, a believer, you need to become born again immediately. Here’s how. If my understanding of the prophecies is correct, there will only be a period of four months between the rapture of the people who were saved previously and the destruction of Babylon. If the news media doesn’t suppress the information, you should be seeing a massive departure of American Jews for Israel. If you are Jewish, join them. If you are not Jewish, seek the leading of the Lord regarding where you should go and what you should do. Hopefully those borders are still open.
